Sharp Releases New BD Recorders

Sharp announced in Japan a new Trio of AQUOS Blu-Ray recorders with the BD-W1200 (1TB), BD-W520 (500GB) and BD-S520 (500GB). All three models comes with the same basic features including, DLNA support, Sharp Mobile Phone remote and App Support as well as 3 TV Tuners (two for recording and one for viewing shows) with the exception of the BD-S520 that only come with a single TV Tuner. But one of the most interesting new update on these new models is Sharp new Thumbnail mode that will create for each show a slideshow of thumbnail helping you to skip a program to the right moment in your show. A nice little add-on that I am sure you will not be able to leave without once used to it! [Akihabara]

3d glasses

3D Stereoscopic glasses are nothing new. In fact you had them when you were a kid and probably didn't even know it. Remember the ViewMaster™ that showed all the cool Disney characters in full 3d? The ViewMaster™ allowed you to look at two pictures of the same thing taken from a slightly different view point and tricked your brain into seeing one 3d image.

In order to see things in 3D each eye must see a slightly different picture. This is done in the real world by your eyes being spaced apart so each eye has its own slightly different view. The brain then puts the two pictures together to form one 3D image that has depth to it.

Yamaha BD-S671 Networked Blu-ray 3D Player

The Yamaha BD-S671 is a very well built Blu-ray player with a basic feature-set. It doesn’t have the diverse range of Internet and video-on-demand gubbins that you can find in Blu-ray players from LG, Sony or Samsung (and Panasonic, to an extent), but it has some network capabilities and we can’t fault its Blu-ray or DVD picture quality as well as its interface or design.

A few other features make this Yamaha Blu-ray player standout. An iPhone/iPod Touch app allows you to take control of the BD-S671 with the convenience of your Apple device. Combine the player with a Yamaha AV receiver and you can take advantage of one-touch power on and playback from your AV receiver's SCENE setting (when using HDMI). Finally, the onscreen display is both clear and informative.

Features
  • plays 3D Blu-ray discs, Blu-ray discs, DVD, and CDs
  • plays MP3, JPEG, AVCHD, and DivX Plus HD files burned to disc
  • Internet-ready — plays TV shows and movies from Netflix® (membership required) and streams videos from YouTube's Leanback channel
  • streams photos/videos/music from a compatible DLNA-enabled Windows® PC
  • free app turns your iPhone®, iPad®, or iPod touch® into a convenient, wireless remote (home Wi-Fi® connection required)
  • dual USB ports (1 front; 1 rear) for playing JPEG photo and MP3 or WMA music files
  • BD-Live Ready — minimum 4GB thumb drive required for downloading content
  • remote control
