Intel launch Ivy Bridge in 2012

Intel has talked to its partners and revealed that Ivy Bridge launch is slated for Q2 2012, not Q1 as they traditionally did in the past. This means that in the last few years Intel has slowed down its new generation tick - tock strategy by two quarters, or half a year.

The upcoming Ivy Bridge units will supposedly be manufactured using a 3D transistor technology. “3D” is actually a term employed to point out that we will not see a flat 2D gate as part of the architecture, but apparently a three-dimensional one (called Tri-Gate) that would tower above the silicon substrate.
